Thought and Poem – January 3, 2015
People have bent over backwards and tried many different avenues to find true happiness. Happiness cannot be bought. Although we do try to make the things we buy such as houses, cars, vacations and things such as these fit into the category of “what will make me happy forever,” and we learn that real happiness just doesn’t work this way. Sooner or later, the house will get old, the cars will break down, and the vacations will end all too soon and we are back where we started from.
So where does happiness come from? Happiness comes from within us. Sure what we see with our eyes play a part, but mainly the happiness we glean comes from being content and satisfied with what we have done. Whether it is to fulfill our dreams, to be with someone else, or to reach out for something more than what we may have…happiness will come only if we are content and when we meditate of what we already have learned and those we have around us.

What we do that will bring genuine happiness will refresh our hearts and minds and give us reasons to face our every days. Happiness will help us look out for the interest of others and do what we can to help make them happy too. Happiness can also move us to keep dreaming and seeking our dreams. But these things that will bring you happiness will not come knocking at your door and say…”Here is some happiness for you today!” You have to open the doors of opportunities that come your way and allow your experiences to fuel your heart with content.
What about you? What makes you happy and how does this happiness feed your heart with motivation to face each new day? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst

What Makes You Happy?
Some might think being happy means there is a smile on your face all the time,
But according to the dictionary, this viewpoint is so way out of line.
We tend to view people, who smile all the time,
With someone who has perhaps…lost their mind?
Who am I to judge though, if this is really what makes them happy right?
After all, it is a “free” country and it is their life.
What about those who think that happiness comes from taking a trip somewhere
Away from their homes?
They travel for miles and miles, and just seem to roam and roam?
Then we have those people, who like to shop and think this is what real happiness feels like,
And when they run out of money or their charge cards are maxed out, the mood swings begin…yikes!
Still there are those who like to go for a walk,
And those who stay on their phones and talk, talk, talk?
Can happiness really come from walking a couple of miles a day?
Or talking on the phone all day?
You know what I think happiness is?
I think happiness is the result of being content with your life and the kind of life you live.
If you love and give of yourself, help when there is a need,
I think you will find that a lot of your happiness in life will come from doing things like these.
