Where Are All the Street Signs Going?

Northborough reports an uncommonly high number of missing street signs, particularly in the northern part of town.

At last week's , Selectman Leslie Rutan voiced concern that she was seeing more and more street signs missing.

"Driving around town," she said, "I noticed there are a couple missing street signs, and it's a situation where the pole is there but the sign isn’t there. And this is at a couple of critical intersections. I don’t know if they were taken down or broken."

Town Administrator John Coderre explained that the town has had issues where "they make nice collectibles for teenagers," and asked residents to let the DPW know of any missing signs. Some, he said, are being swapped out, as the smaller green ones are slowly being replaced by larger maroon signs.

"We're not taking them down for no reason," said Coderre.

But in the Telegram and Gazette on Tuesday, Donna Boynton reports that Northborough could quite possibly be missing upwards of 100 signs in the northern section of town, and it could cost more than $15,000 to replace them.
