Who-Whooing at Lincoln Street School with Darwin
Enrichment program on raptors educates students at Lincoln Street School.
Students from the fourth and fifth grade classes at Lincoln Street School sat mesmerized and attentive (well, as attentive as 9 and 10 year-olds can be) as Heidi Wejman presented a raptor program last week as part of the school's enrichment series.
Wejman may have delivered the program, which included a PBS-produced special on raptors, but Darwin was the star of show. The owl, who hung out behind the scenes for the beginning portion, sat on Wejman's arm as students asked questions to Wejman about the nocturnal guy.
Darwin lives with Wejman, and was given to her after he was hit by a car last December, rendering him nearly sightless.

Wejman explained his eating habits (2-3 mice a day), his wingspan, his sleeping schedule and a lot more with the students.
Upcoming enrichment programs at Lincoln Street School include: authors Susan Libner and Ruthie Bon Bair, on March 15; a "Bach to Beetles" program on March 17; and "Observing Air and Flight with the Museum of Science" on March 22.
