Worcester Heat Grabs Championship

The Worcester Heat, which includes three girls from Northborough, won its first championship.

The Worcester Heat 12U girls’ softball team, based out of Hit Quarters in Shrewsbury, won its first championship on June 19. It beat the Chelmsford Blue Crush, 8-0.

The Heat scored quickly in the first inning and never looked back. They scored an additional three runs in the fourth inning and closed the game out in a decisive fashion with four more runs in the fifth inning to win the game. The team finished the season at 5-0-1. The victory marks the first ever ASA Championship for the Worcester Heat Softball program.

The team players include: Ally Rota, Molly Reilly, and Erica Ross of Westborough; Kirstin DeVries and Madison Tatten of Northborough; Hannah Sullivan and Gabrielle Montoya of Shrewsbury; Abigail Gilbert, Isabelle Holden, Courtney Hassan and Heather Holly of Hopkinton; Kiley Hennessey of Leicester; Katelyn Koller of Hopedale; and Rylee Hehir of Putnam. The team was coached by: Greg Rota, head coach; Bob DeVries, assistant coach; Jim Sullivan, Don Koller, Chris Hehir and Kevin Tatten, bench coaches.
