Body found on Deer Island

Body is reportedly the size of a young child.

The body of a female toddler has been discovered on Deer Island, WBZ channel 4 has reported.

Winthrop and Massachusetts State Police are investigating after a 9-1-1 call came in just after 1 p.m. A woman walking her dog along the island reported seeing what looked like a small body covered by a sheet. The state medical examiner has taken the body and expects to perform an autopsy Friday, the Boston Globe is reporting.

Police plan to contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to try to identify the young girl. Police are asking anyone with information to call: 617-727-8817 or 508-820-2121.
