Boston Children's Theatre Honored for World Premiere Production of 'Reflections of a Rock Lobster'
Boston Children's Theatre Wins 2 IRNE Awards!

It was a big night for Boston Children’s Theatre (BCT)! The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) voters honored the region’s oldest children’s theater company with two awards at a special ceremony held in Boston on April 29.
BCT Executive Artistic Director Burgess Clark accepted the award for Best New Play for his adaptation of the play Reflections of a Rock Lobster. Based on the true story of Aaron Fricke who in 1980 sued his Rhode Island high school for the right to escort his boyfriend to the prom, Reflections of a Rock Lobster sends a strong message about anti-bullying, tolerance and civil rights. “Writing Reflections of a Rock Lobster has been a life changing experience for me,” revealed Clark, who also directed the production. “To have the support of our BCT board, the public and the Boston theater community is remarkable. These are subjects that need to be told and I was given that freedom to tell Aaron Fricke’s story to an entirely new audience. It was quite an honor.”
Ian Shain of South Hamilton graciously accepted the award for Best Young Performer for his moving portrayal of ‘Aaron Fricke’ in the production. “It was such a privilege to play someone who is real,” said Shain. “I have to admit there was an added pressure knowing that Aaron Fricke was in the audience each night. It took a lot of work, but I learned so much from this experience.” Shain, who is currently a freshman at The University of Southern California majoring in Theatre, will be heading to the Williamstown Theatre Festival this summer as part of the acclaimed apprentice program.
