Coach Whispers Corner Talk: The Benefits of Coaching

Hordon Health

Something that’s a huge part of my life is coaching. In my opinion to be a good coach, you must be involved in a sport that you truly love. For a lot of coaches, the job comes as a transition from playing, no matter what level that is. Coaching gives you an opportunity to stay involved in the sport that you love, while teaching others to love it in the ways that you do.

Learning Opportunities: Coaching gives you the chance to truly learn. For one, you are learning about the game every time you step on the field or court. You learn from situations, from your players, from practices and from games. There is something to be discovered in the sport that you coach every day. You also are given the opportunity to learn about yourself. Coaching shows you how good of a teacher you are, as well as a leader.

The Thrill of Competition Coaching is exciting: Working with a group of players in practice is great, but seeing that work pay off in competition is an experience unlike any other. For many athletes, a game is where they allow the hard work that they have put in to pay off. For a coach, you are watching that through every player, as it is the adjustments you have made and the work you have done with your athletes that has given them the opportunity to experience success.
