New Years Resolution: Stay Awesome
Making New Years Resolutions may not be as hard as you think!
Ah yes, the "New Year's Resolution." The "I am going to stop eating sugar; I am going to drop 15lbs; I am going to drink more water!" I am all too familiar with the infamous "New Year's Resolution". I am also familiar with the unfortunate feeling of not fulfilling what you thought was "a reasonable and inspiring resolution this year." New Years is indeed a chance for "renewal," a chance to forget the past and become or do what you have always wanted. It may also be a very easy way to set yourself up for failure. In fact over 80% of people don't fulfill the resolutions they swear will be theirs in the New Year. Depressing, huh? Well, let's reinvent this statistic!
To be resolute…the actual definition means "to be firm in purpose or belief; steadfast." What comes to mind when you hear this definition? Morals? Religion? Love? Loyalty? Friendship? Marriage? Not your everyday challenge! It is actually quite a strong and influential word, which means it can be very daunting and scary to start being resolute about anything. The truth is we are much more familiar and comfortable with the word "change", but even that word has some weight and often makes the strongest of us squirm. To change is "to be different, to transform, to exchange/replace for another." Not the easiest of things to do either.
Not to fear, humans as a species are quite adaptable and resilient! Change is closer to our lives than we like to give it credit. It is what drives our every day. It’s the reason we go to school, learn to drive, try new sports, make friends, fall in love..... Change is one of the few things in life you can ALWAYS count on. Okay, so let’s simplify and put the pieces together....to be resolute and to change: to be firm in the belief that you can be different and/or transform.
I hope you had an "ah-ha moment" there! Resolutions and change are not so bad if you realize how often you actually make them! Wherever you are in your life, you have had to be resolute and embrace change to get there. With that in mind, and the New Year right around the corner; don't think of your "New Year's Resolution" as you being "new" or reinventing what drives you, but more so, being "better." This is a chance (like every other day) to adapt to and embrace the change that has always been intrinsically with and around you. Be more aware of all that you have achieved already and take this opportunity to grow and transform what you already know! Good luck, my fellow "changers" in acknowledging your already great achievements and building upon those each and every day!
Happy New Year!
