Police Bust Teens With Replica Handgun

The teens were taken into custody and warned about the importance of gun safety.

Police in Boston are asking parents to speak with their kids about the dangerous that can stem from playing with toy guns after a near violent incident involving an officer and a teenager.

On Tuesday night, officers responded to South Boston’s Sweeney Playground after a 911 caller reported seeing a person with a gun.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers observed two men in the park. They watched one man pull what appeared to be a black handgun from his waistband. The individual dropped the weapon and police determined it was BB gun fashioned to resemble a .40 caliber handgun.

The teens were released from custody after officers spoke with him about the dangers of carrying fake guns which resemble actual weapons.

State Senator Linda Doreen Forry applauded the officers for exhibiting restraint. “Deadly force could have been used, looks real,” said Forry of the gun.
