Restoration Resources to Participate in PBS's Emmy Award-winning This Old House for its 35th Anniversary Show

Eight-episode story arc will follow the show's crew to Charlestown, Mass. to restore an 1850s Greek Revival Rowhouse.

Restoration Resources, Boston’s leader in antique architectural salvage, will be participating in PBS’s Emmy Award-winning This Old House for a third time. As part of their thirty-fifth anniversary series, Restoration Resources will help the show’s crew restore an 1850s Greek Revival rowhouse in Boston’s oldest neighborhood, Charlestown, by outfitting the house with the perfect marble mantel statement piece. The classic mantel will complement the Bunker Hill home’s distinct history, and the addition of glass doorknob finishes contributes to the home’s delicate beauty and charm.

Like each piece at Restoration Resources, this mantel has a long history; it was “rescued” from a brownstone in Back Bay and is now given new life in the sitting room of the Charlestown rowhouse. The mantel’s style is appropriate for the period, featuring bullseye plinth blocks and a classic urn centerpiece, and its perfectly petite size allows delicate details to shine without overwhelming the home’s 1,500-square-foot frame.

Log stacking and ash hauling are also things of the past because thanks to the mantel’s energy-efficient gas insert fireplace, which helps homeowners increase their heating efficiency while cutting their energy bill. Bill Raymer, owner of Restoration Resources, explained that because marble mantels can be taken apart and repositioned, it is quite simple to refit them around a finished gas insert. That way the homeowners don’t have to sacrifice their home’s classic, antique feel for this modern and easy-to-use upgrade.

“It was an honor working with This Old House for their thirty-fifth anniversary” says Bill Raymer. “We’ve worked with them twice before and each time is a pleasure. I’d like to give a special thanks to Norm Abram and homeowner Angela for letting us be a part of it all.”

This Old House’s thirty-fifth anniversary episode featuring Restoration Resources will air on Thursday, October 16, 2014 on PBS (be sure to check your listings). In the Boston area, you can watch by tuning into WGBX on Channel 44.
