How Did North Reading Perform on the MCAS Tests in 2014?
Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education recently released the annual results.

North Reading students finished quite similarly on the MCAS in 2014 as they did last year.
The final numbers district-wide show almost identical results in each category and North Reading easily topped the state averages.

Eighty-three percent of North Reading students across all grades who took the English Language Arts MCAS exams finished at Proficient or Advanced (22% Advanced; 61% Proficient).
Fourteen percent were listed under Needs Improvement and 3% were in the Warning/Failing category.

A whopping 96% of Grade 10 students were listed as Proficient or Higher in England Language Arts.
These are almost identical numbers to the 2013 results for North Reading.
Grade 8 also performed well with 91% either Advanced or Proficient, while the younger grades did not perform as well.
Mathematics
For Mathematics, 75% of all North Reading students who took the MCAS were listened as either Advanced or Proficient. Twenty percent got Needs Improvement and 5% were Warning/Failing.
The highest Math scores were in Grade 10 where 88% of students received Proficient or Advanced.
Similar to the England Language Arts numbers, these almost mirror last year’s MCAS results.
Science and Technology/Engineering
Only two grades took Science and Technology/Engineering. The two grades finished with 70% either Proficient or Advanced. Of those, Grade 10 had 89% at one the top two levels. These were similar to the 2013 numbers.
