NORWOOD, MA — The Norwood Police Department's Deputy Chief has completed an advanced training program for law enforcement leaders.
Deputy Police Chief Chris Flanagan graduated from Session 299 of the FBI National Academy on Thursday in Quantico, Virginia, Norwood police announced Saturday. Flanagan completed 10 weeks of training in leadership, communication, criminal justice, physical fitness and contemporary law enforcement challenges.
Participants are selected through a competitive nomination process and receive instruction from FBI personnel, academic professionals and other law enforcement leaders, the department said.
"Throughout his time at the National Academy, Deputy Chief Flanagan gained valuable knowledge and developed numerous professional relationships with law enforcement leaders from across the country and around the world," Norwood police wrote in the announcement. "These connections will strengthen collaboration, enhance information sharing, and help further the goals and mission of the Norwood Police Department."
The department thanked Flanagan's wife and children for supporting him during his 10 weeks away from home.
Shaquille O'Neal, a former NBA star and supporter of law enforcement, also attended the graduation ceremony to recognize members of Session 299 and their families, the department said.
