Depression Recognition
Recognizing symptoms of depression are helpful in getting a depressed person to move to action. Getting help sooner is always better!
Depression is a common suffering that many Americans live with every day. It is estimated that some 25 million people are depressed, but they often do not recognize the symptoms that would trigger getting help. Repetitive days of feeling hopeless or losing interest in things that one used to enjoy are clear signs of depression that should lead a person to seek help.
Other telling symptoms include feeling lazy, isolated, finding it difficult to make decisions or remain focused at work. Appetite changes may contribute to weight gain and poor sleeping habits. Having thoughts of suicide are of great concern and need addressing.
Although there are many ways to treat depression, the more common treatments involve therapy and medication. However, changes in daily routines to include an exercise component have been found to play a significant role in recovery. Our experience has found that exercising and losing weight, coupled with encouragement from our counselors can be effective remedies.
