Driving Schools Teach Skills that Pay Off for a Lifetime
Teens who attend driving courses get a set of skills that would take them years to develop if they were learning purely from experience behind the wheel.

Going to a driving school is about more than passing the driver’s test at the RMV, though that is a big part of why people do attend. Teens who attend driving courses get a set of skills that would take them years to develop if they were learning purely from experience behind the wheel and those skills might just save their life, or someone else’s, someday.

Learning the Real Nature of Driving
Driving is an activity that is so mundane that people forget how much attention and skill it really requires. If you’ve been driving for 20 or 30 years, it’s easy to forget how naive you were about the threats on the road when you started. For teenagers, the combination of a greater propensity for taking risks and a lack of experience create the potential for some real problems.

Teenagers today have distractions vying for their attention like never before. Smart phones, for example, give access to email, the Internet, text massaging, phone service, instant messaging services and other distractions. Teens generally seem to think that they’re very good at multitasking but research has shown that no one is really good at multitasking. The more tasks one takes one, the worse they do at each one. This can be fatal when driving.
Rather than lecturing teens about the dangers of distracted driving, driving schools give them a chance to learn the real world implications. Driving school helps teenagers to have a better idea of what threats are really out there on the roads and how a couple of seconds of looking down at a phone can result in hundreds of feet being travelled and many different dangers having come into their path of travel, without the driver even knowing about it.
Taking the Pressure Off
Driving safely requires attention and focus. If you’ve ever ridden with a truly good driver, you’ve probably noticed that they will carry on a conversation with you but that they’ll never take their eyes from the road and that they’re always paying attention to potential threats. These drivers also tend to be very relaxed behind the wheel, which is a real advantage in a bad situation.
Taking driving classes can reduce the pressure that students feel tremendously. At Bill Rehill’s Driving School, we train drivers in Honda Civic EX’S, which are among the safest cars out there and which have good handling characteristics. This helps drivers to build confidence in their basic ability to handle the car, which gives them the chance to really pay attention to what’s going on out on the road in front of them and to learn to react to potentially dangerous situations.
Because we do our driving classes around Walpole, students are also ready for the test because they’re more familiar with the roads. This builds skills for the test, but it also teaches students the value of knowing the roads along their commute, in their neighborhood and so forth. All of this translates in building skills that benefit students for their entire life.
