NORWOOD, MA — The committee asked with looking at the state of the Norwood school buildings has recommended the construction of a new high school.

The long range study committee recently presented a summary of their nearly 400-page study which determined that due to over crowding and a lack of a modern education environment, Coakley Middle School should be replaced and needs the most attention, according to the Norwood Record.

The committee also recommended millions of dollars worth of capital repairs for the elementary schools and a reduction in the number of schools.

For the proposed Coakley Middle School project to move forward, the school district must submit a statement of interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority by early next year. The final decision on whether or not to move forward will come from the school committee.
