The Norwood officers who are also brothers were able to bring the woman to shore.

NORWOOD, MA — A woman is alive today after being saved by two Norwood police officers.

Wednesday morning, officers and brothers Kevin Riley and Brian Riley responded to a well-being check but found no one at the home. At 10:30 a.m. police got another call concerning an unresponsive woman in Ellis Pond.

At the scene, the brothers located the woman and swam 20-25 feet out to the victim. Just prior to reaching her, the woman sank beneath the water and out of sight. Brian Riley was able to feel beneath him and locate the patient, pulling her above the water. It soon became apparent that the woman was fighting their rescue efforts, making the situation that much more dangerous, police said. They were also well above the bottom of the pond and were unable to stand.
