The Hammond Performing Arts Series Presents Jan Muller-Szeraws and Sivan Magen
Award-Winning Musicians to Perform at Temple Israel in Sharon

SHARON, Mass. (April 26, 2016) - Saul Cohen, President of Hammond Residential Real Estate in Chestnut Hill, is pleased to announce that Jan Müller-Szeraws and Sivan Magen will be performing at the next Hammond Performing Arts Series concert in Sharon. The concert, which is sponsored by the Saul B. and Naomi Cohen Foundation and promoted by Hammond Residential Real Estate, will take place on Sunday, May 8 at 3 p.m. at Temple Israel in Sharon, which is located at 125 Pond Street. Admission is free.
Cellist and Artist-in-Residence at the College of the Holy Cross, Jan Müller-Szeraws has been active as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. Solo performances have included engagements with the New England Philharmonic, the Concord Orchestra, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Concepción, Orquesta de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile and Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile, with repertoire ranging from concertos from the traditional repertoire such as Haydn, Dvorak, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, and Shostakovich to contemporary composers Chou Wen Chung, Gunther Schuller, Bernard Hoffer, and John Harbison. He is member of Trio Tremonti contemporary music ensemble, Boston Musica Viva, and Boston/Andover based ensemble Mistral. Also on the faculty at Phillips Academy Andover, he is a frequent guest artist at many festivals and is founder and Artistic Director of the Chamber Music Institute at Holy Cross, an intensive summer program for talented high-school and college students. Mr. Müller-Szeraws studied at the Musikhochschule Freiburg and holds degrees from Boston University. He plays a cello by David Tecchler, on loan from the Saul B. and Naomi R. Cohen Foundation.
“A budding superstar...harpist Sivan Magen’s brilliant sound and remarkable technical acumen shatter any stereotype of this instrument as domesticated and fey,” The New York Times. Praised by the press as “a magician” (New York’s WQXR), whose “virtuoso playing conjures an astonishing range of colour and dynamic” (The Daily Telegraph), Mr. Magen transforms the harp into an expressive, colorful and virtuosic instrument, moving it to center stage through the exploration of the standard repertoire, the commissioning of today’s composers, and his new adaptations to the harp of some of the greatest music of the last three centuries. Aside from his activity as a soloist, Mr. Magen is an avid chamber musician and has appeared in Paris (Salle Gaveau), New York (Alice Tully Hall, the Metropolitan Museum, Bargemusic), with Musicians from Marlboro, and at the Marlboro, Kuhmo , Giverny, and Jerusalem International Chamber Music festivals, collaborating with artists such as Nobuko Imai, Shmuel Ashkenazi, Gary Hoffman, Michel Letiec, Charles Neidich, Carol Wincenc, Emmanuel Pahud, tenor Nicholas Phan, soprano Susanna Phillips and members of the Guarneri and Juilliard Quartets.
