NORWOOD, MA – This spring's MCAS scores have been released, and in many categories, Norwood was near or above the state average.

Below are the results from the sophomore exams in math, science and English, by percent of students to score:

Mathematics

Proficient or Higher:

  • Norwood - 83 percent
  • State - 78 percent

Advanced:

  • State - 54 percent

Proficient:

  • Norwood - 23 percent
  • State - 24 percent

Needs Improvement:

  • Norwood - 10 percent
  • State - 15 percent

Warning/Failing:

  • Norwood - 7 percent
  • State - 8 percent

Proficient or Higher:

  • Norwood - 91 percent
  • State - 91 percent

Advanced:

  • Norwood - 46 percent
  • State - 47 percent

Proficient:

  • Norwood - 44 percent
  • State - 45 percent

Needs Improvement:

  • Norwood - 7 percent
  • State - 6 percent

Warning/Failing:

  • Norwood - 3 percent
  • State - 3 percent

Science and Tech/ENG

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 mandates that every student be proficient in English/language arts and math by 2014. In Massachusetts, this proficiency is measured by the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS).
