Meeting Notes: Selectmen Hear Update on High School, Settle Public Hearing
Project continues on track for September's planned opening of the school while a local cab company faces consequence.
The Norwood Board of Selectmen met Tuesday evening.
Among the items on the agenda was the ongoing project developments to the new Norwood High School, with the start of demolition scheduled Monday for a segment of the old building.
Focus on the new high school has turned to furnishing the building with furniture and installing technology, Project Manager Tim Bonfatti said during the meeting. A complete fit-out of the building is expected by mid-July, he said.

In addition, demolition work is expected to begin Monday on the west wing of the old building and the project’s expenditures remain in accord with planned spending, Bonfatti reported.
Board members said that they were pleased with the school's progress.

"When Mr. (Selectman Paul A.) Bishop and myself toured the new school, which at that time didn't have all of the furnishing, it still looked marvelous," Selectman Allan D. Howard said during the meeting.
The selectmen also continued their public hearing involving Anjoul Cab of Norwood, Inc. in regards to an email complaint concerning a dangerous taxi ride by Tony Anjoul. With enough evidence to take action, the board approved a motion to suspend one of Anjoul Cab's six licences for six months.
"I think that old-fashinoned (idiom applies) here: 'Where there's smoke, there's fire,'" Selectman Helen A. Donohue said during the meeting.
The selectmen also heard the planning details for the 4th of July celebrations around town.
The town's 4th of July Committee presented the theme of this year’s celebration - “Education is the foundation of our nation” - in appreciation of the new Norwood High School. The board also saw a sketch of a designed emblem, which will be printed on t-shirts to sell. It includes an image of the old school underneath the American Flag.
