New Options Added To Willett Early Childhood Center Preschool

Young students will be able to spend more time in class.

NORWOOD, MA — More options are coming for parents with children at the Willett Early Childhood Center.

The school committee recently approved the new offerings. Principal Carolyn Robbins said the new choices could help fill empty enrollment seats at the preschool, but there's no guarantee.

"I suspect short of providing preschool from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. we're not going get the numbers that some of our community preschools get because, for working families and families in need of more coverage, we're not going to be able to attract those families," she said.

Here are the added options for students in the peers program with the tuition cost:

  • Three year olds: three-day option for $2,850
  • Four year olds: five-day option with four full days and a half-day for $6,000

Superintendent Dave Thomson said the new options will not require more teachers.

"We're looking for a first step that will increase our enrollment. I think it's important, preschool is different. You have certified teachers delivering a curriculum. It's not a daycare, it's a preschool and it's a high-quality preschool," he said.

Committee members and school officials said parents paying for the five-day options will pay an extra $6.60 an hour for the extra time.
