NHS Hosts Workshop on Concussion Concerns

Several local speakers will discuss the dangers and management of concussions in youth sports.

Tomorrow night the Athletic Department is hosting a workshop on Adolescent Sports Concussions and Management with four local panelists.

The event is designed for, "parents of all school age children, youth coaches, anyone interested in learning signs and symptoms of concussions and its impact on learning," according to the release from the Athletic Department.

The speakers panel includes Norwood High School Athletic Director Brian McDonough, N.H.S. guidance counselor and assistant girls hockey coach Molly Barefoot, N.H.S. physical trainer Bob Barksdale, and Dr. Adam Strauss, pediatrician and partner at Westwood-Mansfield Pediatric Associates with a special interest in sports medicine.

Over the course of the night the panelists will discuss concussion basics, computerized neuro-cognitive testing, guidelines on return to play, concussions and academics, easing the transition back to the classroom, and the for coaches and parents.

The event is free for anyone interested and begins at 7:00 p.m. To register, email athletics@norwood.k12.ma.us with the number of people attending.
