No Push To Rename Norwood Board of Selectmen To Selectboard
So far, 30 Massachusetts towns have renamed their board of selectmen to select board.
NORWOOD, MA — For now, the selectmen in Norwood will remain known as selectmen and the board of selectmen will not be a select board.
While 30 communities in the state have renamed their board of selectmen to select board, the current Norwood board shows no signs that they will switch to the gender neutral name.
Chairman William Plasko told the Norwood Record that he is not opposed to exploring a change but there's never been a serious need to change the title. He added that a change would require numerous bylaws to be rewritten, which requires Town Meeting Approval.

Selectman Helen Abdallah Donohue said she wanted to be called a selectwoman when she was elected and holds that same opinion today. She did note that the town's five female police officers and number of female department heads are signs of progress.
