Patch: Tell us about some of your specialties?
SW: BBQ Slaw, Baked Corn, Corn Bread Dressing & Golden Crispy Fried Chicken I have been known for being the food Doctor or food magician due to being able to fix or execute a meal in crunch time.
Patch: Your name is Stephanie but you are known as Shephanie?
SW: They call me Shephanie because I'm a licensed chef. I been in the food service industry for over 20 years. My southern roots are Halifax County North Carolina, although I prepare and sell southern style comfort foods I have the ability to execute any recipe and create different types of entrees. Sons of Shephanie's offer other services such as catering, chef services, private parties in home meal preparing, and I take pride in cooking needless every meal which is created is with love, care and affection.
Patch: Who inspired you to go into this industry?
SW: As a child I would spend a lot of time in the kitchen with my mom watching her prepare dinner for her children and that's where my interest started. Shortly following I found myself baking cakes and all sorts of bake goods from scratch and setting up a table in my community to sell to my neighbors. At the age of 8 my neighbors started ordering whole cakes. The first cake I sold was a Raggedy Ann and Andy for $5.
My mom would ask me to cook dinner while she was at work and that's where it all started. In my adults years I applied for a position in a child care program as a cook and was hired while working in food service. I decided to attend a culinary training program to further my education in the food service industry. After completion of culinary arts training I received a culinary certificate and was placed in a job in Boston.
Shortly following that employment my culinary instructor suggested that I accept a position that came available in a culinary program as head chef and supervisor. I applied and was hired for the position. I held this position for two years and excepted another position in management in the food service industry at the Olive Garden in Columbus, Ga. I relocated from Boston Massachusetts to Columbus, Georgia and stayed in the position until my return to Boston in 2004.
At that time I utilized all my experience and skill and became an entrepreneur starting Shephanie's Childcare food service provider and now Sons of Shephanies Southern Style and BBQ. I am owner and operator of son of Shephanie's southern style and BBQ restaurant.
