Norwood Catches Fire from Beyond the Arc to Burn Medfield in Tourney
The Mustangs defeated Medfield, 62-50 in the first round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament; advance to play Stoughton in Thursday's quarterfinals.
There was no defense for the type of shooting Norwood displayed against Medfield Tuesday as the Mustangs knocked the Warriors out of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament with a 62-50 first round win.
Norwood hit seven 3-pointers in the first half to take a 34-25 lead into the break and finished with 10 shots made behind the arc in the game.
Medfield, which never led in the game, cut the deficit to six points, 48-42, with five minutes to play in the fourth quarter before Norwood regained momentum and extended the lead back to double digits to close out the game.

Norwood seniors Troy Sousa-Semper and Sean O’Neill lead the Mustangs with 13 points each. Medfield’s Johnny McCarthy was the game’s leading scorer with 16 and Drew Shea chipped in for the Warriors with 11 points.
Norwood (12-9), the 12th seed in the D2 field, will travel to fourth seeded Stoughton on Thursday for a 7 p.m. showdown in the quarterfinal round. To view the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament bracket, click here.

Medfield, the tournament’s fifth seed, ends the season with a 14-7 record.

Leading 16-10 in the final seconds of the first quarter, Norwood's Troy Sousa-Semper controlled a loose ball from beyond the 3-point line that was swatted out of the paint by Medfield's Johnny McCarthy and nailed the deep 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded. The bucket extended Norwood's lead to nine and set the tone for the rest of the game, deflating Medfield. Sousa-Semper's buzzer-beating three was the Mustangs' fourth in the first quarter.

Hockomock League foe Stoughton defeated Duxbury, the tournament's 13th seed, 69-63 Tuesday and will host the Mustangs in Thursday's quarterfinals at 7 p.m. To read more on Stoughton's win, click .
