Norwood Could Be Heading Towards An Override
Selectman Bill Plasko said Monday night that he thinks the town is heading towards a Proposition 2 1/2 override.

NORWOOD, MA — The possibility that Norwood residents will be asked to vote on an override is becoming more likely.
On his final night as the chairperson of the Norwood Board of Selectmen, Bill Plasko was asked about the topic during Norwood Community Media’s (formerly Norwood Public Access) election results show.
“I definitely do,” Plasko said when asked if the town was heading towards an override. “We’re doing a lot of things this year to get (to a balanced budget) which are not the best financial strategies or decisions. There isn’t a lot of fat in our budgets and we don’t have any avenues for increasing revenue.”

Plasko said the town would have to decide if they would pay for an override or make cuts to services.
Later, finance committee Chairman Alan Slater said nothing was off the table when asked about an override. Following town meeting, the budget-balancing committee will meet to create a five-year plan where they project revenue and expenses for that period.

As it stands, there are no proposals for an override, but that hasn’t stopped others from exploring the idea. Following a tough budget season last year, the school committee formed a subcommittee to explore the idea of an override.
