Norwood Fire Chief Retirement Plans Announced

NORWOOD, MA — After over three decades with the Norwood Fire Department, Fire Chief Anthony Greeley is counting down his final days on the job.

Town Manager John Carroll announced at last week’s selectmen meeting that Greeley will enter retirement Jan. 16. He said members from the committee that recommended Greeley for the job five years ago have expressed interest in joining the search for the next chief.

"I’m really proud to have appointed chief five years ago and he’s done an excellent job. The condition of the department is great, he’s done an absolutely marvelous job,” Carroll said.

Greeley said he didn’t have many concrete plans post-retirement aside from spending time with his family and grandchild.

“I’ve been driving to 137 Nahatan St. since I was 22 years old. I sit in front of you at 55. It’s a long time,” he said. “I’m surrounded by terrific people at the fire department. I am a lucky guy to have that staff around me and the rank and file doing the work and responding to countless calls.

The board had nothing but praise for the long-time member of the fire deparment

“It’s clear that you’ve thought about it and come to the decision that is right for you. I can tell you are ready to go and I wish you the best,” Selectman William Plasko said.
