Norwood Gets $170,984 In Additional Road/Bridge State Funding

NORWOOD, MA — The town of Norwood was awarded an additional $170,984 in state funding to go toward road and bridge repairs, Gov. Charlie Baker's office announced Wednesday.

The funding was part of a $40 million supplemental budget Baker signed for fiscal year 2019, according to a statement from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. This makes Norwood's total fiscal year road/bridge repair budget $1,025,902.

Department of public works director Mark Ryan did not immediately return Patch asking what roads in town will benefit from the supplemental funding.

“We are pleased to provide this additional transportation funding for local projects in cities and towns across the Commonwealth,” Baker said in a press release. “This funding represents our continued commitment to supporting communities as they address the maintenance and modernization of local roads, which are a critical part of the Commonwealth’s transportation network.”

Additional funds were added to the current budget, so that towns can start projects as soon as possible, Lieutentant Gov. Karyn Polito said.

“This support will allow community leaders to take action immediately so that projects are ‘shovel ready’ for the spring construction season,” she said.

This statewide road/repair funding supports all 351 cities and towns throughout the state. Funding for each municipality is predetermined by a formula that includes factors such as population, road miles and employment.
