Norwood Hospital Receives National Patient Safety Award

According to Healthgrades, if hospitals nationwide performed at the same level as Norwood, 127,667 patients safety events would be avoided.

NORWOOD, MA — Norwood Hospital was recognized nationally, receiving the 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades, an organization that assesses hospitals and doctors. The hospital was one of 16 in Massachusetts to be honored with the award. This is the third year in a row that Norwood Hospital has been recognized with this distinction.

During the study period (2015 to 2017), Healthgrades found that patients at Norwood Hospital were:

  • 55.9 percent less likely to experience an accidental cut, puncture, perforation or hemorrhage during medical care.
  • 50.9 percent less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest.
  • 64.4 percent less likely to experience pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital.
  • 57% percent less likely to experience catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired at the hospital.

"Our hospital has a 100-year history in Norwood and the surrounding region, and we are committed to delivering care that is among the best in the nation," Norwood Hospital president Salvatore Perla said in a statement. "This recognition is validation of why our patient’s choose Norwood Hospital."
