Norwood Man Charged With Firing At Police During High-Speed Chase
After crashing into a telephone pole, police said, the suspect fired several rounds at officers.
WALPOLE, MA — A Norwood man was arrested after leading police on a chase several miles down Route 1 A and firing a gun at officers, authorities said.
Around 11:20 p.m., Norwood Police tried to pull over Steven Brant, 31, in Norwood. Brant at first stopped, but Chief William Brooks said he sped off as soon as the officer got out of his cruiser.
The high-speed chase ended near Kendall Street in Walpole, where Brant struck a telephone pole. After striking the pole, police said, the car spun before crashing into a police cruiser.

Following the crash, police said, Brant fired several rounds at police officers. Norwood police were able to subdue him without returning fire, they said.
"They did not fire back," Brooks said. "They held a position of cover."

When the gunshots were over, Brooks said police were able to detain Brant.

According to Walpole Police, one of the bullets Brant shot grazed his own head. He was taken to a local hospital. No officers or bystanders were hurt during the pursuit. Walpole police said Brant faces several charges.
"We are very fortunate that our officers are alright and were not struck by the gunfire," Brooks said.
