Norwood Man Charged with Stealing over $1,100 in Items from Mall

A Norwood man attempted to hide stolen items from Lord and Taylor under a car in the parking lot of the South Shore Plaza, police said.
Darren P. Wagner, 19, was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with larceny over $250, according to Police Chief Russ Jenkins.
Police were alerted to Wagner and a second man, a 17-year-old from Abington, after loss prevention officers at the mall noticed the two on surveillance camera allegedly concealing merchandise under their clothing.

The two men were confronted by an officer who attempted to detain them when they attempted to exit the store.
The Abington man fled back into the store and left through another exit. The officer attempted to chase the man, but lost sight of the man in a wooded area along Granite Street.

A canine team from Randolph responded to search for the man but was unsuccessful.
Loss prevention reviewed old video that was recorded after the officer confronted the two men and observed Wagner concealing merchandise under a vehicle in the parking lot outside Lord and Taylor. When loss prevention workers went out to retrieve the merchandise, they observed Wagner and called police.
Wagner was taken into custody and provided officers with his companion’s name. Officers were able to locate the vehicle the two men came in and observed stolen merchandise on the back seat.
The merchandise recovered under the parked vehicle and the merchandise recovered from the Abington man’s vehicle totaled over $1,100.
Officers are seeking an arrest warrant charging the Abington man with larceny over $250. His name is not being released because he has not yet been charged.
