Norwood Police Aim for Improvement in Work with Mentally Ill

Police Chief William Brooks ​recently announced that the police department has joined the One Mind Campaign.

NORWOOD, MA — The Norwood Police Department is working to improve interactions with the mentally ill.

Police Chief William Brooks recently announced that the police department has joined the One Mind Campaign organized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The purpose of the campaign is to ensure successful interactions between police officers and persons affected by mental illness, the statement said.

As part of the campaign, the department will implement promising practices over the next 12-36 months.

The Norwood Police Department currently has a partnership with Riverside Community Care and has implemented a policy on Serving the Mentally, police said. Some officers will attend Crisis Intervention Team training, with more to attend in the spring. Our goal is to have a minimum of 20 percent of the agency trained.
