Norwood Public Schools Present 14th Annual Fine Arts Festival

Art from students grades 1-12 transformed the Apollo function hall into a gallery.

The Apollo Function Hall was transformed into an art gallery Monday and Tuesday evening as it hosted the 14th Annual Norwood Fine Arts Festival.

The festival celebrated extraordinary works of art by Norwood students in grades 1-12. Director of Fine Arts, Catherine Connor-Moen said the festival was a showcase of a wide variety of the work created daily in the classroom throughout the Norwood Public Schools.

The festival showcased visual art pieces along with performances from the music, drama and television production departments.

The visual arts portion of the festival was a dynamic representation of every medium. Sculptures created from clay, paper mache, ceramic and even Legos were on display. Self-portraits in classic pencil sketches, oil pastel, and charcoal held viewers captive. Colorful mixed media pieces created by students of all ages were also on display throughout the room.

As attendees walked through the transformed function hall admiring the exceptional visual pieces, performances by Norwood Public Schools outstanding drama and music programs provided additional entertainment. Performances by the Prescott Chamber Ensemble, Celtic Strings, The Norwood High School Jazz Choir and The Norwood Madrigal Choir were just a few of the musical participants in this year’s festival. Improvisational Story Telling directed by John Quinn highlighted the talent of the schools drama programs.

A sampling of videos and productions created by students in the Norwood Television program were also shown throughout both nights of the festival.

The Norwood Fine Arts Department would like to thank Nick Poulopoulos and George Vergakis, owners of The Apollo, for generously donating the facility for the event.
