Norwood Woman Dies After Crash on Route 495

The crash took place at 7:35 a.m. on Route 495 in Norton.

A Norwood woman has died after an accident on Route 495 in Norton Thursday morning.

Dominica E. Howard, 31, suffered critical injuries Thursday morning when her vehicle that was travelling southbound in the high-speed lane swerved across the median to the other side of the highway according to the Massachusetts State Police.

The driver of the Saturn swerved off the left side of the roadway into the median, crossed the median and entered the southbound high-speed lane. Howard’s car was struck in the passenger side by an oncoming 2005 Nissan Maxima, operated by a 29-year-old Fall River woman.

Police say Howard served after a vehicle in front of her attempted to change lanes.

Howard was not wearing a seatbelt according to police and sustained critical injuries. She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital but was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The operator of the Maxima will not face charges.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The operator of the 2007 Ford Edge that changed lanes in front of Howard, a 47-year-old female from Norton, has been located and is cooperating with the investigation.
