Donald R. Stables, 82, formerly of Needham, died on Oct. 3, 2013.
A 20-year service veteran, he joined the Coast Guard in 1952 and served in the U.S. Navy prior to that. Don retired from the Coast Guard as a Chief Yeoman in 1970.
Following his military career, Don became a sales professional for a Needham oil company, Buckley & Scott Whetton, Inc. Then in 1988, he joined Arlex Oil of Lexington Ma, and worked with great pride and affection for this family owned oil company for 25 years.

The son of Alexander Stables, of Aberdeen, Scotland, and Edith (Bevan) Stables of Boston, MA; Don was born on Feb. 5, 1931 in Cambridge, and was raised in Somerville.
Don married Mary Lou Gato of Portland in 1962, and the two moved to Needham where they proudly raised their five children.

His love of the sea led Don and Mary Lou to Cape Cod in 1987, where they lived by the history-filled villages, and sandy-beaches, they so adored. They spent their weekends antiquing, treasure hunting and exploring the back roads of New England.
Don proudly served his country for more than 20 years, and will always be known as a life-long and loyal Boston sports fan. Meeting and talking to people was always a favorite past time for him. His genuine nature, and gift for gab, endeared him to friends and strangers alike. He had an amazing impact on everyone he met, and was always there to offer a helping hand and sound advice to anyone in need.
Don loved to work, and fulfilled his vow to never retire; but he also cherished the times he would socialize and travel with friends and family. In the end, nothing was more important to him than his wife and best friend, Mary Lou. Her happiness was always his first priority, and he spent a life time proving that.
A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, Don will best be remembered as a devoted friend and family-man who leaves behind an endless treasure of happy memories for all those who knew and loved him.
Don is survived by his beloved wife Mary Lou Stables of Norwood, MA; his sister, Leslie Angus, and her husband, Ralph, of Buzzards Bay, MA; his children, Peggy McDonald of Medfield, MA; Paula Borden and her husband, John, of Old Orchard Beach, ME; Mary Jo Halloran, and her husband, Tim, of Elk Grove, CA; Dianne Tortorici, and her husband, Walter, of Medfield, MA; and Donald Stables, and his love Pia, of Beverly Hills, CA; as well as six grandchildren, and one great grandchild who all refer to him fondly as Papa and Grampy.
His funeral service will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave (Exit 19B off Route 128/95) on Monday, Oct. 7.
Visiting hours will begin at 11:30 am, with a memorial service to follow at 1 pm. At the conclusion of the service, friends and family are welcome to follow the funeral procession to the Honor Guard ceremony at the Needham Cemetery, 128 Nehoiden St. Needham, MA 02492.

(Pushard Family Funeral Home)Brian T. McCluskey, 48, of Halifax and Norwood High graduate, died.
The son of the late Joseph V. and Anne M. (Murray) McCluskey, he was born in Everett.
Living in Roslindale for his early childhood, he was raised and educated in Norwood, graduating with the Norwood High School Class of 1982. After attending Northeastern University in Boston, he became a certified horticulturalist and arborist.
Brian had been employed for many years at Lovell's Nursery in Medfield and A.J. Tomasi's in Pembroke as well as several other area nurseries and garden centers.
He is survived by his sisters, Kathleen A. Martin and her husband, Thomas of Norwood and Patricia A. Krusz and her husband, Daniel of Norwood. Brian was raised by his late aunt and uncle, Barbara and Joseph Regan.
He is also survived by his cousins, Joanne Regan of Plymouth, Maureen Kehoe of Hyde Park and Barbara Tallent of Braintree, as well as nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Resurrection in Celebration of Brian's Life Friday, Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. at Saint Catherine of Sienna Church, Washington Street, Norwood.
Private inurnment will be held at Saint Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury. The Roache - Pushard Family Funeral Home of Canton is assisting the McCluskey Family with arrangements.

Mary Lou (McGuff) Foley, a longtime resident of Norwood, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.
She was the beloved wife of James F. Foley, Jr.; loving mother of James F. Foley, III and his wife Denise of Wolcott, CT, Gerard T. Foley and his ex-wife Paula of Norwood, and David P. Foley and his wife Sheryl of Middleton, WI; cherished grandmother of Ryan and Leah Foley, Lyndsey Foley Alyn, Heather Foley, and Madison and Makayla Foley; dear step-grandmother of John, Bryanna and Nicolas Houston; devoted sister of Elizabeth Curran and her late husband Joseph of Norwood, Patricia Hall and her husband Raymond of Harwich, Kathleen Kenney and her husband Thomas of Quincy, Sheila Barnett and her late husband John of Attleboro, Marcia Jenkins and her late husband Robert of Indio, CA and the late Thomas McGuff and his wife Irma, whom survives, of Somers, CT.
She is also survived by her dear friend Pauline Alberghini and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. (Rte. 1A), Norwood, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington Street, Norwood. Interment will follow the Mass at Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
