David M. Hill was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in "Rose Tattoo."

HILL, David M.
David M. Hill of Braintree formerly of Norwood, died away May 21, 2013 at the age of 79.
Mr. Hill was the beloved husband of Wilma (Farell) Hill, loving father of David E. L. Hill and his wife Diane of W. Bridgewater and Michael W. L. Hill and his wife Kristy of Bridgewater, brother of Dinah “Kay” Winters, dear grandfather of Kristen, Nicholas, Brenna, and Harrison Hill.

Mr. Hill was born in Paris, KY where he grew up. He graduated from St. Johns Military Academy in Delafield, WI. and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a Purple Heart recipient.
After leaving the service, he went to Hollywood, CA to pursue an acting career, appearing in “Johnny Guitar”, “The Rose Tattoo” and “The Eternal Sea.” He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the film “The Rose Tattoo.”

For more than 20 years he worked at the Stop & Shop Warehouse in Inventory Control, retiring in 1995 and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Reposing will at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree, 02184 until 9:30 a.m. Friday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.in St. Francis of Assisi Church, So. Braintree Square. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
The visiting hours will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. The burial will be in Braintree Cemetery, Braintree. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Dr., Rockland MA 02370.
