Post 70 Poised for Rematch Against Milton

No. 1 seed Norwood will face off against no. 5 seed Milton tonight at home.

The Norwood Legion Baseball team, Post 70, heads into the district tournament this Tuesday night against Milton in a best-of-three game rematch of last year’s first round tilt, a two games to none sweep by Milton.

Post 70, who out-muscled Walpole in the final week of the season to earn the No. 1 seed in the West Division of their district, holds a 15-3 overall record and looks poised to rebound from last year.

On the hill Tuesday will be strikeout pitcher Sean O’Neil, who relies on his command of his fastball to get outs. O’Neil bolsters a strong pitching staff with a 1.35 ERA and a 4-0 record in Legion play.

On Wednesday, at Cunningham Field in Milton, Coach Paul Samargedlis will use Norwood High Ace James Bussiere and his (4-1) record and 2.74 ERA to hopefully shut the door on Milton.

If necessary, a third game will be played at Wall Field with Brendan Cathcart slated to start in the rubber match.

Last year, Milton defeated Norwood 2-0 in the first game and 10-6 in Game 2 to win the series and move on.

This year with a No. 1 seed, and a solid group of core players which includes John Gorman at shortstop with Anthony Perriello and Brandon Davis solidifying the heart of the order as well as the middle of the infield, look for Norwood to make a strong run in this postseason.
