Report of Clown with Scissors Leads to Warrant Arrest

On Oct. 19, a caller told police that someone in a clown mask was running around with scissors near Stop and Shop on Route 1.

NORWOOD, MA — A man reportedly wearing a clown mask was taken into custody by police Wednesday.

At 7:54 p.m. on Oct. 19, a caller told police that someone in a clown mask was running around with scissors near Stop and Shop on Route 1, according to the Norwood Police Log. When police arrived, they learned that Joseph Michaels, 24, of Norwood, had an active warrant. He was taken into custody by police.

This isn’t the first case of clown hysteria in Norwood or the state. On Oct. 13, a clown sighting was reported near Northwest Drive. Earlier this month, it was reported that some students at Dedham High School received vague text messages about clowns from an unknown numbers. At Merrimack College, a shelter in place was called and a dorm was evacuated Monday night amidst reports of an armed clown on campus. In Braintree, a teen’s clown-prank gone wrong led to a 911 call.
