Rt. 1 Dunkin' Donuts Robbery Suspect Arrested In Mattapan

Police say James Anthony Brown may have been involved in several robberies at local Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's.

A Brockton man wanted for Monday's alleged robbery at the Dunkin' Donuts on Route 1 was arrested in Mattapan Tuesday morning.

James Anthony Brown, 53, was taken into custody near Hazelton Street and charged by the Boston Police Department with unarmed robbery, assault and battery, failure to stop for police leaving the scene of a crash, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, and failure to stop for a red light. Walpole Police Chief John Carmichael confirmed that Brown was the man wanted for an alleged robbery at the Dunkin' Donuts at the intersection of Route 1 and Union Street, at the Walpole-Norwood town line.

At about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Boston Police were altered to an unarmed robbery at the Dunkin Donuts on Blue Hill Avenue. Officers on their way to the scene were informed that the suspect was seen fleeing in a U-Haul truck. Witnesses told officers that the man, later identified as Brown, ordered a donut, paid with changed, and grabbed cash when the clerk opened the cash register.

Additional officers located a truck and man who fit the description of the suspect near Walk Hill and Harvard streets. When officers attempted to pull the truck over, the vehicle took off, struck another car, and ran a red light. The truck stopped on Hazelton Street and Brown allegedly fled on foot. He was found a short time later.

Brown faces charges out of Wrentham District Court for unarmed robbery and assault and battery. Police believe he may have been involved in similar incidents at Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's in Boston, Quincy, and Braintree.
