Serious Crash on Route 93 Causes Traffic Backup in Norwood

Traffic is backed up to exit 11 on Route 95 in Norwood

A serious crash in Canton has backed up traffic to Norwood.

At 10:12 a.m., the Massachusetts State Police and Canton fire responded to the crash near exit 2 in Canton.

According to state police, a sedan was crushed in the middle of a chain-reaction crash involving a series of rear-end collisions. A woman and 1-year-old child were extricated from their wrecked car by Canton firefighters. In addition to the sedan, the crash involved a tractor-trailer unit, a van, and a pickup truck.

Two lanes on the northbound side and the southbound side of the highway were closed to allow for the landing of a MedFlight to take the woman to Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

The child was transported to South Shore Hospital before being transferred to Children’s Hospital in Boston. A state trooper drove the ambulance from the scene to South Shore Hospital so both EMTs could be free to give medical treatment the child in the back of the ambulance.

After the crash, traffic was backed up to Norwood on Route 95 North, to Braintree on 93 South, and 128 South was jammed from the Route 95/93 split to Route 1 according to the WBZ traffic map.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction teams were at the scene.
