Town Meeting Approves Town Clerk/Accountant Split

Voters approved the change to the town charter last week.

NORWOOD, MA — Norwood will no longer be the only community in the state to have a combined town clerk/accountant position.

Town meeting voted last week to petition the state legislature to approve a change in the town charter to create two separate positions. The vote ends over a century of one person serving as both the town clerk and accountant, according to the Norwood Record.

Former Town Clerk/Accountant Robert Thornton said the candidates who applied to succeed him in 2015 didn't have experience as both a clerk and an accountant, leaving the town in a vulnerable position if the current town clerk/accountant or assistant town clerk leave their posts.
