Two Businesses Face Hearings For Failed Liquor License Compliance Check

Tuesday night, the selectmen voted to have a hearing for the businesses that failed a compliance check conducted by Norwood police.

NORWOOD, MA — Two establishments will face hearings in front of the selectmen for allegedly selling alcohol to an underage person.

Tuesday night, the selectmen voted to have a hearing for the businesses that failed a compliance check conducted by the Norwood Police Department. The names of the businesses have not been released but will be known once the hearings are scheduled.

The check consisted of a person younger than the legal drinking age asking to purchase alcohol. While the other establishments in town passed, two did not, according to a letter to the board by Police Chief William Brooks,

“It’s pretty severe in one of them. They theoretically looked at the information and still sold to them. Therefore, I think they should be brought in,” Selectman Allan Howard said.

David DeLuca, who is special counsel for liquor issues, told William Plasko that the board could do nothing, conduct a hearing, or issue a warning.

“I feel it’s necessary to have them in because we have an obligation to explain eyeball to eyeball how seriously we take these matters and that’s important,” Selectman Paul Bishop said.
