NORWOOD, MA — It's a new era in Norwood as the town welcomes their first new general manager in nearly 40 years.

Tony Mazzucco, was sworn in as the town's new top officer Monday by now-former GM John Carroll. In his remarks, he recalled a conversation with general Romeo Dallaire, the head of the UN Forces in Rwanda during the country's genocide. When Mazzucco, who was deciding between a career in local government and international development, asked the general what it takes to be successful, the answer was "40 years"

"Be prepared to go somewhere and spend 40 years there to make a difference. Otherwise, you may not make that difference," Dallaire told Mazzucco.

Those difference makers are not hard to find in Norwood, as Mazzucco noted there are many town employees with 20, 30, 40 years of experience.

"It's a testament to John (Carroll's) leadership and it's a testament to a community that supports its staff and municipal employees. It's something that's right in Norwood and we're going to continue on," Mazzucco said. "I look forward to working with all of you as we continue to do the best we can do for the Town of Norwood and all its residents."
