UPDATED: Flooding Remains a Concern This Afternoon
The deluge has closed schools and flooded many roads.

Updated at 1:02 p.m. Thursday: The flash flood warning is over, but there is still a flood warning until 3:30 p.m. today in Peabody.
There is still “significant street flooding in Peabody.” Though the “widespread heavy rain” is over, The Weather Channel warns that scattered showers with brief heavy rain are possible through the afternoon.

“Flood waters should continue to gradually recede over the next few hours. Do not drive through flooded roads,” said The Weather Channel in an alert.

The flu clinic at City Hall and the Board of Health meeting have both been cancelled. They will be rescheduled, according to Peabody Police.

Here is an update on closures:
Nightmare on Main Street has been postponed. City Hall is closed and there is no City Council meeting tonight, according to Peabody Police.

Peabody is reeling after more than 12 hours of torrential rain has hit the area.
The Peabody Public Schools are closed and there are numerous roads closed because of flooding, including Walnut Street between Central Street and Wallis Street.
The morning commute is slow-going with Route 128 backed up for miles.
There is also a flash flood warning for Essex County until 10:15 a.m.
The National Weather Service asks that people avoid flooded roads and obey road closures. People near small streams should head ”for higher ground immediately.”
“Rapid and potentially life-threatening flooding of streets and underpasses is imminent. Do not drive through flooded roads and find alternate routes. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Turn around... don’t drown.”
