GreenFest 2013 Coming to the Brown School

The annual event will be held May 18 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the South Peabody elementary school. This year's theme is on sustainable and green technology.

GreenPeabody is putting on this year's GreenFest a little later and at a new location. Around 20 exhibitors from the surrounding area will set up at the Brown School May 18 for the third annual event.

Event goers will be able to have their environmental, recycling, sustainable technology, gardening and energy-saving questions answered at no cost and be able to get some paper shredding and eletronics recycling done as well.

JRM Hauling & Recycling will shred up to two boxes of confidential documents for free and any boxes after that is a $5 charge.

An electronics recycling collection area will accept hardware such as TVs and monitors for a $10 fee and computers, printers, DVD players, VCRs, microwaves and stereo compoents for $5 each. Cash only. Extra large items may require an additional fee.

Old cell phones will be collected separately by GreenPeabody and donated to Safe Haven Shelter, a resource for battered women.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., GreenFest will highlight this year's theme of "sustainable and green technology" with presentations on the plans for a new LEED Silver certified Higgin Middle School, recycling programs at the Brown School, a new Community Supported Agriculture program for residents and more.

GreenPeabody is also offering scholarships to high school seniors from Peabody in the Class of 2013. Scholarships will be awarded to those who have been active in the community with academic activities focused on green initiatives. The winners will be announced at GreenFest.
