'Jay's Cookies' Campaign Honors Late Bullied Student Jason Bernard
The "Recipe for Kindness" campaign is meant as a heartfelt effort to turn tragedy into a movement for compassion.
PEABODY, MA — Peabody Veterans Memorial High students and staff are taking part in the inaugural "Jay's Cookies" campaign in memory of the late student who took his own life amid bullying.
The "Recipe for Kindness" campaign from March 30 through April 10 is meant as a heartfelt effort to turn tragedy into a movement for compassion in tribute to 14-year-old Jason Bernard, who committed suicide in May of 2025.
Organizers said the event honors Bernard's curiosity, ambition and big dreams by centering around his favorite hobby of baking cookies.

"A cup of laughter, one caring smile, a sprinkle of hope, and a whole lot of love —these are the ingredients we want our students to carry with them," said Cely Rosario, Jason’s sister and founder of Jason's Legacy Foundation. "Jay's Cookies is about more than just a sweet treat — it's a reminder to every student to choose kindness every single day."
Coordinated through the Peabody Veterans Memorial High School Culinary Arts program and sponsored by the Class of 2029, the event invites students and staff to participate in a Cookie Gram exchange.
