The YMCA of Metro North and the Torigian Family YMCA are thrilled to announce the annual Livestrong at the Y 5K on November 23, a community-centered road race that brings together runners and walkers to support a vital cause: cancer survivorship. The event offers a family-friendly 5K course for participants of all fitness levels.

This year’s Livestrong at the Y 5K aims to raise awareness and funds for Livestrong at the Y, a nationally recognized 12-week wellness program that helps adult cancer survivors reclaim their strength, health, and well-being after treatment. Led by certified instructors trained in cancer survivorship and post-rehabilitation, the program provides personalized exercise regimens tailored to each survivor’s needs. Proceeds from the 5K go directly to supporting Livestrong at the Y, offering participants and their families a free membership during the program.

"Participating in the Livestrong at the Y 5K directly supports a program that offers cancer survivors an environment to regain strength and improve their quality of life," says Cara Green, Executive Director at the Torigian Family YMCA. “It’s more than just a race – it’s about empowering individuals to overcome treatment fatigue, build connections, and feel part of a resilient community dedicated to wellness and recovery."

Each registration goes directly toward the Livestrong at the Y program, a transformative wellness initiative that helps adult cancer survivors rebuild their lives. Since the YMCA of Metro North introduced this program, it has been a lifeline to hundreds, helping survivors find resilience and joy in the next chapter of their lives.

“This race means so much to our community,” says Madison Rifkin, Assistant Health and Wellness at the Torigian Family YMCA. “Through Livestrong, we not only give cancer survivors a pathway to rebuild their physical health but also foster a strong support network. It’s inspiring to see participants regain confidence, connect with others on a similar journey, and feel the community’s encouragement every step of the way.”
