Leaky Roof Latest Parent Complaint At Peabody High School

"This is an old building that is showing its age," Mayor Ted Bettencourt said.

PEABODY, MA -- Look no further than water-stained ceiling tiles and barrels placed in corridors to collect drips to see why Peabody needs a new high school, according to Mayor Ted Bettencourt. The mayor made his comments in response to photos that circulated on social media after they were posted by the mother of a student. Peabody is expected apply for funding this year with the Massachusetts School Building Authority.

"This is an old building that is showing its age," Bettencourt told the Salem News, which first reported this story. But parents say the most recent round of photos documenting problems at the building are another example of the school not reporting problems to parents. In January, several parents contacted Patch to report the heat had been not working at the school for several days.
