Man Indicted In Peabody Home Invasion

John Close, 36, of Marblehead, is accused of breaking into his estranged wife's apartment in October and threatening her with a gun.

PEABODY, MA -- An Essex County Grand Jury indicted a Marblehead man this month on a string of felony charges stemming from an October home invasion in Peabody. Prosecutors say John Close, 36, of 11 Creesy Street in Marblehead, broke into his estranged wife's apartment and fired two shot into the bed because he thought another man was hiding under it. Police responded to the woman's apartment after Close called to say his wife had hit him in the head with a telephone.

Close has been held since his arrest on the afternoon of Oct. 6. The indictment charges him with home invasion, kidnapping, being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, discharging a gun within 500 feet of a dwelling, assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery, child endangerment and possession of Wellbutrin without a prescription.
