New North Shore Children's Museum In Peabody Needs Volunteers

A volunteer fair for recurring helpers will be held at the museum on Thursday.

PEABODY, MA — The new North Shore Children's Museum in Peabody is in need of some dedicated volunteers to help make the ambitious venture a success.

A volunteer fair will be held at the museum at 10 Main Street on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. Volunteers can learn about opportunities to help out starting in early October, fill out an application, meet staff and tour the new facility.

Volunteers are needed to greet visitors, assist with ticketing, and support engagement in play.

"Volunteers will play an important role in the success of the North Shore Children's Museum and its ability to deliver excellent customer service for families and enriching educational experiences for children," Mayor Ted Bettencourt said.

Bettencourt has touted the North Shore Children's Museum as the first of its kind in the region and a future anchor of tourism and revitalization of the downtown Peabody area.

"I believe this can be self-sustainable," Bettencourt said at a Feb. 25 City Council meeting approving municipal funds for financing. "I believe it can be profitable.

"It's also really important to realize that it's hard to put a number on what this could mean for the area shops and restaurants."
