Obituary: Martin J. Astrofsky; Active in Youth Groups in Peabody, Former Cub Scout Leader and Coached in Peabody Little League

History teacher at Boston Latin School for a short time before changing careers to medical sales

Martin J. Astrofsky, 81, beloved husband of the late Patricia (Fitzgerald) Astrofsky, died suddenly on Friday January 2, 2015 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center Hospital in Burlington after being stricken while out shopping.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Samuel ‘Nick” and Anne Nettie (Ostrof) Astrofsky. He grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Boston English High School. He then graduated from Boston University.

He was proud to serve as a History Teacher at Boston Latin School for a short time before changing careers to Medical Sales. He worked as a Regional Pharmaceutical Manager with the Dow Company for many years before retiring in 1994. He later worked with Medi-Sense and Johnson & Johnson before enjoying his retirement since 2001.
Marty loved children and was very active in the City of Peabody youth groups. He was a Cub Scout Leader, and also coached in Peabody Little League. He was passionate about golf, and was a very devoted father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by two sons and their wives, Scott and Rosemary Astrofsky of Lynnfield and Keith & Kathryn Astrofsky of Waltham; a daughter and her husband, Beth & David Lochiatto of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren, David & John Astrofsky of Lynnfield, Claire, Ethan & Ryan Astrofsky of Waltham, and Elena & Rachel Lochiatto of Tewksbury; a brother Edward “Eddie” Astor of Randolph; a sister Marilyn “Deedy” Serkin & her husband Reuben of Jacksonville, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Tuesday from 5 – 7 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. The family will have a Private Funeral Service and burial. Memorial donations may be made to the Newbridge on the Charles, Hebrew Senior Life, 5,000 Great Meadow Road, Dedham, MA 02026 Activities Fund, where Marty’s brother Eddie resides.
